This stamp is part of a set of seven issued by Mongolia in 1971 to celebrate the traditional Tsam Hindo-Buddhist masked dance. This is one of several sets of Mongolian postage stamps featuring Tsam masks issued after the fall of Communism.  This stamp depicts Mahakala, also known as Gombo, a powerful protective god and lord of diseases and epidemics. Mahakala corresponds to the Hindu god Shiva.
