This stamp celebrates the Roitschäggätä, also known as the Tschäggättä, of Switzerland. The Tschäggättä is the Carnival procession of the Lötschental Valley. Because Carnival occurs at the end of winter, these masks are made to look frightening in order to help scare the winter away.
